The One Design Yacht Regatta

NOTICE OF RACE  May 29- 31st 2022 , updated December 2021

COMMENT

This regatta is run to promote the concept of One Design Yacht Racing in Phuket and Krabi. Yachts must be class recognized to enter the event.   There are 4 classes of yachts. Platu Keelboats, Farr 1104 Cruiser Racers , Pulse 600 trimarans and Firefly sports catamarans. Although we have to have rules and regulations for safety at sea we hope to put a lot of emphasis on the joy of sailing. The organizing committee will do everything possible to make this regatta great fun for everyone so that you want to come back next year.

ORGANISING AUTHORITY

The regatta is organised under the auspices of the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and the Phuket provincial office. All enquiries should be made to: Mike Downard ceo@sailinasia.com (Mobile +66 872810458) The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017-2021 of World Sailing, The Platu Class Rules and the Thai NCA amendments, The IRC rules part A,B and C The OMR rule for Ocean multihulls. No national prescriptions will apply.

This Notice of Race may be amended by the Sailing Instructions. Other amendments to this NOR or Sailing Instructions will be displayed at Ao Yon Base no later than 20.00hrs, the day before. Nothing in these instructions relieves a boat of her responsibility under civil law to comply with the International Regulations for preventing collisions at sea. Between the hours of local sunset and sunrise the International Rules for preventing collisions at sea shall apply. When a boat cannot determine with certainty which tack the other boat is on it shall keep clear of that boat. “Room” includes taking into account the existing conditions (including visibility).

The World Sailing special regulations J, category 5 special regulations shall apply to all yachts. These shall include, but may not be restricted to, the following; Yachts must carry a suitable engine and adequate fuel, anchor and towing lines drinking water requirements, as well as life jackets for all crew. Additional safety rules if any will be available to all yachts prior to racing. The participating yachts must adhere to any reporting schedule. RRS55 will be changed in the SI’s. Discarding cotton, elastic or rubber bands may be discarded when setting sails.

ELIGIBILITY AND FEES

The regatta will have the following classes subject to number of entries received.The classes are as follows;
Class 1.Farr 1104 keelboats. 2 & 3. Pulse 600 and Fireflies using the OMR rating system. Weigh in shall be at registration on 28th October early morning (0900). Class 4. Platu keelboats. Again the weigh in is necessary for these boats (420Kg maximum).

ENTRY

Application for entry shall be made on the official Registration Form found on this website: www.onedesignyachtracing.com

Boat entry is tiered for early registration. Discounts will be made for yachts entering the regatta well in advance as this ensures we have better logistics and operational management.

*Crew party tickets are 2,000 Thai Baht per crew to attend the three social events. 25% discount will be given to all crews registering using the entry form on this website 30 days or more, before the event starts.

VHF RADIOS

All yachts must have a functioning VHF Marina band radio capable of monitoring channels 72 and 16.

ANCHORAGE

The Ao Yon anchorage is very good holding and is only 200m from the SIA Ao Yon Base . Mooring is FREE of CHARGE. (drop your hook)Dinghies will be provided to transport crew to and from the anchorage but bring your own it may be busy.

SCHEDULE

This is the proposed schedule for the event. However the Organizing committee reserves the right to amend this schedule and any other rules with the sailing instructions:
May 28th 12.00 hrs registration, payment and signing on,  17.00 - 17.30 hrs  Skippers briefing.
14.00 - 1630. Practice Race 1 start. Usually a race to warm up crews. Races as per Race Officer determination.
Saturday May 29th 10.30 race Start time: Finish of Racing about 1600-1700 ideally
Sunday may 30th 10.30 race Start time: Finish of Racing about 1500-1600
Sunday Prize-giving and dinner at 1800 approx.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

These will be available at signing on and on the website a couple of weeks in advance of the event. The official website is www.onedesignyachtracing.com The Start/Finish will be disclosed at the skippers meeting. The racing will be windward leeward and around the islands. Course information will be given to Skippers at registration. Courses will be on the website in pdf form.

PENALTY SYSTEM

For all classes the two turns penalty RRS 44.1 is changed to One turn penalty ( one Tack and one Gybe)

SCORING

The regatta will be scored as provided in Appendix A of the RRS using the low point scoring system. There will be at least one race per day for each class and no drop scores. One race shall constitute a series.

INSPECTION

Yachts shall be liable for inspection in accordance with applicable safety and measurement requirements. All yachts shall carry sail numbers on the mainsail.

JURY

A jury shall be appointed by the Racing Committee.

AWARDS

Subject to 5 boats in each class there will be 1st/2nd/3rd awards.

ADVERTISING

The organisers may require all participating boats to display the event sponsors advertising on the first 20% of the hull, the first 20% of the mainsail boom plus a sponsors flag of maximum size 500mmx750mm on the backstay. The Yacht Racing Association of Thailand hereby subscribes that advertising will be allowed pursuant to the World Sailing advertising code formerly known as Category C. Without limitation the organisers will disapprove advertising it deems to be in conflict with Thai laws and customs and may disapprove advertising in conflict with the products of the event sponsors.

DISCLAIMER

The organizing committee, the race committee, the event sponsors and their representatives, officers, members and volunteers accept no responsibility whatsoever for any loss of life, property, personal injury or damage caused by or arising out of the regatta. Participants compete entirely at their own risk.

EARLY BIRD Boat Entry is 5000THB in October but an early bird booking in September is 4500THB and the very early Bird of 4000THB is available only for those owners registering in August.

CHARTER FEES for Yachts can be obtained from SIA or JAVA.

*CREW PARTY TICKETS are free!! Guests are 500 Thai baht  to attend the organized social events. Owners please indicate crew numbers on the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM, and ensure your crews guests know where to pay for party tickets.
